I went through it just ticking off the echoes of my experience, interest and associations.
Roseate Terns, occasional visitors to the Forth, about top of my "Must See" list. My mother had one pointed out by her father, nearly 80 years ago, one of her favourite bird memories.
Robinson Crusoe, based on the real, I believe deeply unpleasant, Alexander Selkirk from Largo, a place we're looking at as a possible relocation destination.
Island isolation. I was at the RSPB Volunteers' day in Stirling on Saturday ...I mused whether or not you'd be there... where there was much talk about the planned de-ratting of the Shiant Islands, to permit Manxies and others to return. They'll be looking for nutters, sorry, that was unprofessional, volunteers, to spend 4-6/12 stints, in Winter, in a place of undisputed beauty but whose best friends would still describe as "...rugged, bleak, inhospitable and challenging..." A bit like me, in fact.
On a good summer day... I believe there was one as recently as 1953...people strip right down to their oilskins and what encapsulates it for me is that from the Shiants, if seeking vice and depravity, one goes to to Stornoway, a town where the Salvation Army is regarded as hedonistic and grey is the new black.
See you there?
Lindsay.
